In these 720-pages, two-volumes, Alfred Chapuis and Edouard Gélis follow the great automaton makers and their mechanical creations from antiquity until the early 20th century.
The two volumes are filled with black-and-white photos, drawings, diagrams, plans and sketches which the authors use to explain their functioning(drawings and sketches of mechanical parts, joints that create movement, etc).
